Educational Testing Services’ (ETS) team of analysts and researchers support CMSIs’ endeavor to collect current data on MSIs.

Michael Nettles, Senior Vice President and the Edmund W. Gordon Chair of Educational Testing Service’s Policy Evaluation & Research Center (PERC), leads the partnership between CMSI and ETS. Michael has a national reputation as a policy researcher on educational assessment, student performance and achievement, educational equity, and higher education finance policy. A nonprofit, nongovernmental organization, CIEE is the world leader in international education and exchange. For more than 65 years, CIEE has helped thousands of people gain the knowledge and skills necessary to live and work in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world by offering the most comprehensive, relevant, and valuable exchange programs available. We work with CIEE to bring study abroad opportunities to more MSI students.

The Institute for Recruitment of Teachers (IRT) addresses the lack of diversity in the nation’s teaching faculties by recruiting outstanding students of color and other scholars committed to diversity, counseling them through the graduate school application process, and advocating for sufficient funding for advanced study. IRT graduates have enjoyed remarkable success securing jobs as K-12 teachers, counselors, and principals, as well as professors, university administrators, and leaders. We work with IRT to assist students participating in the MSI Weekend with their college applications.

The Human Rights Campaign represents a force of more than 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide. As the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender civil rights organization, HRC envisions an America where LGBT people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest, and safe at home, at work, and in the community. We work with HRC on programs related to LGBTQ students on MSI campuses.

SLSV Logo | ALL IN Challenge

SLSV Coalition centers on college campuses in creating a space for student voters, and in doing so, creating lifelong voters. With students as captive audiences and a mission to educate, colleges and universities have an opportunity and duty to create spaces for civic growth on their campuses. That is where the SLSV Coalition comes in. By providing funding, resources, connections, and strategic direction, like the planning structure set up by the SLSV Checklist, they help campus and local leaders plan and deploy best practices to answer these questions for their students.

The Institute for Democracy & Higher Education (IDHE) was founded to address a pressing need in higher education. U.S. colleges and universities have long worked to fulfill their civic missions, but they have yet to meet the expectation that learning about and participation in democracy pervades every student’s learning experience. Nor is ensuring the health and future of a just and strong democracy a realized institutional commitment for all campuses. Educators have found these responsibilities challenging for several reasons. First, they had no way to measure student civic participation and, as a result, could not identify obstacles or benchmark progress. Second, they lacked evidence-driven resources and recommendations for action. Finally, educating for democracy is unavoidably political, a daunting task in today’s hyper-polarized era.

Established to address these challenges, IDHE serves as a leading venue for nonpartisan, applied research, resources, and advocacy on college student political learning and engagement in democracy. Our mission is to inform and shift college and university priorities, practices, and culture to strengthen democracy and advance social and political equity. We focus explicitly on “all things political” on college and university campuses.
