Announcing our Third Cohort of HSI Pathways Fellows on the Pathway to the Professoriate

New Brunswick, NJ (August 5, 2019) — The Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions (CMSI) is proud to announce the third cohort of HSI Pathways Fellows of our HSI Pathways to the Professoriate program.
HSI Pathways to the Professoriate is supported by a $5.1 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Designed to increase the diversity of faculty members in the humanities, the program will provide 90 students over five years with the tools to acclimate in graduate school and remain successful on the path to the Ph.D. Each Fellow participates in an intensive summer program, presents their research at a cross-institutional conference, and receives mentoring and support for applying to and enrolling in graduate school.
“These Fellows will not only enhance skills relevant to succeeding in graduate school, but they will join a network of scholars from the HSI Pathways program who have successfully matriculated into graduate school and integrated into academia,” said Paola “Lola” Esmieu, Director for Programs and Strategy at CMSI. “We are happy to welcome these Fellows to the HSI Pathways ‘family’.”
HSI Pathways to the Professoriate is coordinated by CMSI in partnership with three Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) — California State University, Northridge; Florida International University; and the University of Texas, El Paso — and five majority research institutions — New York University; University of California, Berkeley; University of Pennsylvania; Northwestern University; and University of California, Davis. Throughout the five-year program, CMSI is also conducting assessments as to how selected students are navigating the HSI Pathways program and, once admitted, their graduate programs. CMSI aims to identify the challenges and impetuses along the pathway to the Ph.D.
