Charlotte Teague

Charlotte C. Teague serves as associate professor and chairperson for English and Foreign Languages, the largest academic department at Alabama A&M University (AAMU) in Huntsville, where she has worked for over twenty years. Under her leadership, in only three years, the department has experienced unprecedented growth in personnel and majors and improved DFW rates. In addition, she updated the curriculum, established a new track, and raised the department’s profile through data collection and professional development connected to student recruitment, retention, and success. Teague also leads AAMU’s new dual enrollment program, which has tripled in growth in only two academic years. She is known for her strategic planning, problem-solving, and leadership. Teague has a reputation for being an action-oriented agent of change. Prior to her current leadership roles, Teague served for sixteen years as a faculty leader and was recently the recipient of the University Excellence in Service Award. She is an award-winning teacher and professional writer. In addition to her administrative duties, she is an active writer and scholar with published articles, book chapters, monographs, book reviews, and poems in various journals, books, newsletters, and magazines. Before entering academia, she worked as a journalist and technical and scientific writer. Through this public, corporate, and government work, Teague gained the expertise that influences her leadership and academic work in the academy today. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Education in Secondary Education/English degrees from Alabama A&M University. She then earned a Master of Arts in English and Technical Communication from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and her Ph.D. in English from Morgan State University. Teague is also a graduate of Leadership Huntsville/Madison County.
