The CMSI Mid-Program Convening For Aspiring Leaders Will Take Place in Philadelphia this Fall!

New Brunswick, NJ, November 16, 2021 — This weekend, the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions (CMSI) will host a Mid-Program Convening for their MSI Aspiring Leaders program in Philadelphia, PA. The two-day event will take place from Friday, November 19 to Saturday, November 20, and will focus on cohort-building and expanding the leadership skills that Aspiring Leaders have gained so far throughout the two-year program.
“Being an effective leader starts with developing a strong support system. This year’s convening will be about reconnecting with our cohort and creating space to discuss contemporary challenges and identify resolutions in real-time,” shared Marybeth Gasman, Executive Director of the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions and the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Endowed Chair.
The interactive gathering will provide tools for the many challenges that presidents of Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) often have to navigate. Session topics will include leading during COVID-19 and other major crises, the role of the president in enrollment management, and building one’s CV.
“We’ve had quite an eventful year due to COVID-19, so we are very excited to welcome our Aspiring Leaders back to an in-person program. There is so much to learn during this convening as many of our Aspiring Leaders were challenged in their administrative roles in the midst of the pandemic,” shared Brandy Jones, Director for Programs and Communications for the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions and the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Leadership, Equity, and Justice.
Supported by grants from ECMC Foundation and The Kresge Foundation, MSI Aspiring Leaders is a program developed by the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions (CMSI) that brings together prominent leaders from MSIs to engage with mid-career aspiring leaders from education, non-profit, and business sectors in an effort to prepare the next generation of MSI presidents.
