New Brunswick, N.J., April 14, 2022—The Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions (CMSI) is proud to host the John Smartt Summer Scholars Program, an internship program designed to give interested master's students the opportunity to receive professional experience, connect with scholars in the higher education field, and learn fundamental research skills in connection to equity and leadership.
We are glad to announce this year's selected John Smartt Summer Scholars:
- Alicia Reyes, University of Nevada, Reno
- Lesley Rivas López, University of Texas at Austin
- Alexis Weatherspoon, University of California, Riverside
The John Smartt Summers Scholars program is named in honor of CMSI longtime supporter and philanthropist, John Smartt, and seeks to recruit ambitious individuals who demonstrate an interest in learning more about Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) and those who exemplify self-determination. The internship, centered on the scholarship and programs of CMSI, will offer selected interns practical and research skills that will help them as they move forward in their careers.
Interns will receive generous benefits, including a $1,500 stipend, the chance to create and publish research, mentoring from faculty, in addition to gaining administrative experience. This year will be the first year our interns will join CMSI staff in person at Rutgers University — New Brunswick.
Please join us in congratulating these scholars on their selection for the John Smartt Summer Scholars Program!
