Shawnrece Campbell

Shawnrece D. Campbell serves as the Assistant Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion at Northern Michigan University (NMU).  Prior to NMU, she served at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, a Carnegie-classified R2 university that is also a Hispanic Serving Institution and a Minority Serving Institution, as the Director of the Competency-Based Education Project and prior to that as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Director of the School of Arts, Media & Communication. She has over 25 years of experience as an equity practitioner and educator and is a certified emotional intelligence coach who enjoys helping others to achieve their career goals. Shawnrece is a highly sought after interdisciplinary collaborator due to her strategic acumen, joyful personality, and the efficiency and effectiveness she brings to every partnership.  Her research has focused on Ethiopian healing scrolls, food as medicine, writing as a healing art, and black economic empowerment. She has numerous publications, including journal articles, book chapters, and a co-authored book. She is co-chairing the Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education (TABPHE) Student Institute at its 51st conference and has served on several boards including American Association of University Women (AAUW) Florida and the executive board of the National Council for Black Studies. 

She received a Bachelor of Arts in English from John Carroll University, a Master of Arts in English from Youngstown State University, a Master of Business Administration from Stetson University, and Ph.D. in English from Kent State University.
