Tamara Brown
Tamara L. Brown serves as the Executive Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at the University of North Texas (UNT), a Carnegie-classified R1 university that is also a Hispanic Serving Institution and a Minority Serving Institution. Prior to UNT, she served at Prairie View A&M University as Dean of the Graduate School and Dean of the College of Juvenile Justice and Psychology. Through her leadership in these (and other) roles, Tamara demonstrates her commitment to increasing students’ access to college and investing in and developing people, especially those from minoritized communities in ways that enable their fuller participation in society. Her research has focused on ethnic minority mental health, spirituality, substance use, and juvenile delinquency. She has numerous publications, including journal articles, book chapters, and edited books. She serves on several boards including KERA, a community-supported media organization in North Texas, and Children-At-Risk, a non-profit organization that drives change for children through research, training, and influencing public policy. She is also an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
She received a B.S. in Psychology from Longwood College, an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
